I often get asked “If you were starting your cleaning business today, what would you do to spread the word your in business? That’s easy. I would tell everyone I know and have ever known that I now own my own cleaning business.
This includes not only close family and friends. It would also include people I have a casual association with. This would include my doctor, pharmacist, mailman and whoever I could think of. You need to spread the word loudly.
You need to give everyone you talk to your business card (for tips on building a better business card click here). Let them know your the person to call when something needs cleaning. Exhaust the obvious first before trying to convince others. Spreading the word to family, friends and associates is virtually free so make use of it.
I would also stop at every Realtor office within 5 or 10 miles. I would let them know what services I offer and ask for their business. I would make sure everyone had my business card and would also hand out some flyers highlighting what I can do.
Realtor offices can be a gold mine as many times homes (and businesses) need to be cleaned for several reasons:
- Before being showed for a open house.
- After construction has been completed to prep a home for sale.
- As a condition of the sale itself (buyer requires cleaning or seller offers as a bonus).
- Foreclosed home has sat for months and needs cleaning before being offered for sale.
- Elderly owner has not kept up on cleaning and house needs a “serious cleaning”.
Early on you will have a lot of time on your hands to spread the word your in business. Make the most of it then provide “knock their socks off service” when you get the call. This will get them “talking” about just how good you really are and get you on the fast track to success.
