I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately and the following four thoughts just keep jumping out at me.
Whatever book, newspaper article or website I start reading from in the last few weeks all seem to be discussing these topics.
I don’t know the rhyme or reason behind it to tell you the truth, it just seems like these four topics need to be addressed.
These “thoughts” are completely unrelated to each other, but collectively they will help you run a better cleaning business in my humble opinion.
One – Don’t become a dinosaur.
In our business we must always look for way to get new business. If we don’t we will become obsolete, like the dinosaur from years past.
Now how would you become a dinosaur in the business world? By not staying on top of the latest trends. So that leads to the question…what are the latest trends.
I see the latest trend being social media. This would include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and the other smaller players out there.
All you need to do is turn on the news to see what this media has done to change our worlds landscape. Revolutions are being formed just by people gathering online.
Businesses are just getting their heads around what social media can do for their brand. What does this mean for you? Your company must have a presence on them. Sooner rather than later.
In the marketing world being the first to bring a new product to the market gives you a huge advantage to sell your product. It makes total sense, as the market is all yours.
In the social media world being the first company in your field to master it and take advantage of all it offers would give you that same advantage right? I think so! Get on it before your competition does.
Two – Provide Value.
All the hype in the world can’t help your message if you don’t first have something worthwhile to say. This means you must give value in your messages, as that is what your customer’s want.
You will not get the sale if you are perceived as not giving value. People must trust you and value your word before they will do business with you.
How do you do this? First you need to deliver some “insight” that solves the customers problems. Be creative and think through how you can eliminate their problems.
This insight is nothing more than an “idea” that creates opportunities to work together. Any inspiration you can provide increases the chances for a potential customer to become an actual customer.
Three – Play it smart.
Networking meetings, happy hours and other business gatherings can be dangerous when you add cocktails to the mix. Can you spell REGRET?
If you network regularly or go to a party of some kind to promote your company DO NOT DRINK TOO MUCH. This can easily lead to you making a fool out of yourself.
Besides…odds are you will regret it later. As they used to say during the war years…loose lips sink ships. The ship in this instance would be your company’s ship, so be careful.
Four – Don’t Procrastinate.
Procrastination is for a dentist appointment not for your business. Do not put off until tomorrow what you can accomplish today. When you procrastinate you put yourself a day behind getting that new account. When you don’t get that new account, it puts your dreams behind schedule another day too.
These tips should keep you on the right track over the long haul, so make use of them to the best of your ability. If anyone has any other tips along the lines of the four listed here, add them to the comment section below.
