Over the years I had several commercial and residential customers that supplied everything for us, and quite a few of them had an Oreck vacuum.
I enjoyed using them because it kept me from lugging my own around all the time. Nothing worse than carrying a vacuum up several flights of steps. That’s not any fun, plus it’s bad for your back.
Anyway, I liked using the units because they had long cords, which made it easy to just vacuum and not have to worry about where I would plug in. I was also amazed at how lightweight they were. They are like carrying a feather around.
Fast forward to the other day, and I was scanning Amazon for deals when I stumbled across what seems like a good price for an Oreck commercial vacuum. As usual, this unit is really lightweight, as it comes in at only 8 pounds. So it’s perfect for those that don’t like a heavy vacuum to cart all over the place.
It has a standard 12 inch cleaning path and automatic floor adjustments that allow it to move from carpet to hardwoods with ease. It has the on/off switch on the handle, which make searching for the power button with your foot a thing of the past. It also comes with one filtration bag and one replacement belt.
Currently the unit is priced at $142.19 with free shipping. Being able to purchase a commercial vacuum at a price like this is a deal in my opinion. My only knock on these units is they don’t have the ability to edge the carpet via an attachment. But that one downside is not a big deal given the price for such a well known brand. Take a peek at the unit below.
If anyone has purchased an Oreck in the past and has some comments they would like to share, feel free to post them below. I would love to hear what everyone has to say, so don’t be shy!

We have an Oreck store in our town. I always buy used orecks for the business. Between 40 and 80 bucks vs the price of a new one. And they go through them b4 they resell they to. I was told by the owner themselves, that the older ones are better, the motors are stronger. Just like anything else, the longer it stays on the market the cheaper it gets.

Hi Gary! If you have a place like that in town… FANTASTIC. You can’t beat that deal!

My only complaint with orecks is the cords and the handle assembly. Where the cord comes out of the handle, insulation breaks down. Also on some of the older models, where the aluminum part of the handle meets in the the middle, there are 2 screws, cracks there a lot and then u must replace the handles or use tons of duct tape, lol.

I understand. I had the same issue with the Sanitaire SC785. The units I love on the whole, but the cord has the same issue where the insulation wears badly where it enters the unit.

This is an awesome vacuum. I own 8 of these vacuum cleaners. They are powerful, lightweight, and they can take a beating. If the parts ever breaks, they are easily replaced. However they do not come with an attachment hose for vacuuming corners and edges. So if you need to do that in your cleaning jobs, you will need to bring one of their hand vacs.

Thanks for sharing that info Eric. Much appreciated!

Does anyone have issues with the bags smelling, and how did you handle it. I think I have tried everything, including the crystals Orick sells. I have stopped using bag vacs for residential cleaning because of that, and the fear of inadvertently carrying pests (flees) from one customers home to another. I also don’t like to carry a whole separate unit attachments.

The bag smell is almost always caused by pet hair or dampness (mold) in the bag. You can eliminate most smells by keeping the bag dry or changing it after a pet-heavy residence. You can mask the smell, and use the vacuum as a fragrance diffuser, by spraying a 50/50 mix of essential oils and rubbing alcohol to the outside of the bag. You can also soak a cotton ball in the 50/50 mix and suck it up into the vacuum. Cheap essential oils can be found at Walmart, while high quality oils can be found at various online retailers.
